side effects

here's one side effect of being home alone and making lots and lots of phonecalls to workers all day: my bottoms of my feet are sore from pacing around, just run a little raw. i guess i find myself walking around on the softest parts of my knobbly rug and doing loops from the kitchen nook into my bedroom and back. i do a lot of talking on the phone for my job lately, it doesnt leave me with a lot of energy to do it for fun.

my hands are dry af too. i guess when you cook yourself 3 meals a day (and im counting my frozen pizza yesterday as cooking), you have to do a lot of dishes. and that handwashing that maybe makes me feel better but also makes my skin crack.

here's a vignette:
i went to my mailbox to look for the thermometer my mom said she'd send me because it's not easy to get them anymore. i walked down 3 flights of stairs (i now know which levels have doors that push out, so i dont have to use the handle), opened my mailbox using the key, grabbed my mail and walked up a different set of stairs that have opposing door handles. i walk into my apt, i wash my hands using my elbow to squirt out the soap, i take a clorox wipe and wipe the doorknobs down, and my keys and basically anything else i can find.

this is probably totally unnecessary but it feels like what i should be doing?

i have never, ever been a germaphobe. i bite my nails, even when old ladies on the bus tell me to stop. in fact im kind of indignant about it. i def dont shower as often as some. i dont get sick that often either, but when i do im kind of a baby about it, and lately chest colds have turned into pneumonia, and i even had my first asthma attack a few years ago (as an adult? how does that happen?)

i did an inventory of what drugs i have my house. one steroid pill from the asthma, some newly prescribed anti-anxiety pills that are really just benedryls, a couple of muscle relaxers from when i hurt my back after tour, some left over nyquil and dayquil, a weird gel cap that is to stop coughing from when i couldnt sleep and had bronchitis. not sure any of that helps but its good to know what i have.

today i did go outside twice though. once i just took a walk around the block in the middle of the day and that felt really nice. a group of about 5 people were talking at a respectable distance from one another. some dude was yelling at a friend on a porch from his car window. a car had a bumper sticker in spanish that said "keep back because when i see a nice ass i stop short"

the second time, i walked to a part of the park i hadn't been to. i brought a phone that doesnt have service and i listened to a uk garage mix and found myself dancing around to it. there wasnt anyone in the park so i just went for it. i was doing some parade style strutting to make my way across a big field. eventually i saw 3 people on bikes but was like, whatever, we're all doing what we want these days. i probably wouldnt usually break into dance at dusk right by my house. but theres no one around so there no social control, and that part is kinda nice.
